REY COMEAULT – Stellar Box and Field Lacrosse Builder

Reynold Comeault has always been the epitome of a genuine professional employing his passion and commitment to organize and adapt to whatever was required for success. With over a quarter of century of commitment to lacrosse, Rey Comeault is well known as a builder and a mainstay of both box and field lacrosse in British Columbia.

Rey has been involved at all levels of box lacrosse from minor lacrosse in Maple Ridge up to the Senior level (including two WLA championship teams – 2016 and 2018). Rey’s efforts to help promote and grow the game have been described as “unparalleled”.

Among his major contributions are: British Columbia Regional Coach 2008 -2010; Team British Columbia Field Lacrosse Coordinator (2010-2020) - a role of overseeing all Men’s and Women’s Field Lacrosse teams. In regards to field lacrosse, Rey adopted a vision of build, grow and expand. Under Rey Comeault’s leadership and direction - BC Field Lacrosse grew from three to ten age-appropriate teams. The Team BC Field program has become hugely successful creating opportunities for countless young student athletes to train and develop. Led by Rey and his supporters, more than 260 young men and women student athletes from British Columbia have received university scholarships across the United States and Canada (including his son Reegan who attended Ohio State and played for the Buckeyes).

Ashley Bull is a Team BC graduate. She played for Team Canada in 2011 and attended Canisius College in Buffalo, New York during the period 2012- 2017. When speaking about Rey Comeault, Ashley recalled the following – “Team BC polo. Khaki shorts. Midcalf socks. A permanent sun glass tan and the biggest smile. There’s only one guy that describes - Rey Comeault. He is truly a one-in-a-million person. His kindness and his charismatic energy are unmatched. His belief in women’s sports and in women’s lacrosse is what drove Team BC to establish its roots and become the program it is today. He pioneered the program and pushed for its growth, even though he didn’t have a daughter involved - the true example of a selfless individual who genuinely cares for the development of women’s sports and women’s lacrosse. He was our leader who radiates positivity, optimism, and sees the best in everyone. He is always in the corner for women’s sports and women’s lacrosse. He has been Team BC’s biggest advocate, biggest supporter, and he always does it with a smile”.

Similar sentiments regarding Rey Comeault were made by Megan Kinna, a player for Team Canada in the 2022 World Games, who attends Northwestern University. Megan enthusiastically stated, “If there’s one man who can do it all, it’s Rey Comeault. From aiding with the recruiting process to making wraps in hotel rooms for our team in Florida, Rey did it with a glowing smile on his face. His dedication to growing women’s lacrosse is unmatched. I don’t know everything that Rey did behind the scenes, but I know he showed up for everyone. He had players’ best interest at heart and always made sure to keep things fun no matter what. We were treated like gold! From developing to recruiting, there wasn’t a time where Rey didn’t make us feel special. You could tell that he truly wanted each player to succeed in what their goals were and he really helped to curate a positive experience for all of the players on Team BC field lacrosse”.

When asked for his reaction upon hearing he would be inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame, Reynold replied – “My initial thoughts were of overwhelming honour. I know many players and builders who have reached the pinnacle of lacrosse in being inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame and I am so humbled by this incredible selection”.

In recalling particular career highlights, Rey Comeault responded – “I have so many fond memories regarding my involvement in lacrosse. However, to name a few; Starting the Ridge Meadows Minor Community Field Lacrosse Program, being Head Coach of Bantam Team BC winning Nationals in Ontario and assisting so many female athletes in achieving University Scholarships stand out”.

In thinking of particular people who impacted his career, Reynold stated – “Being inducted as a builder, there have been so many people who I have had the great pleasure of meeting and coming to know. However, if wasn’t for the support and understanding of my wife Sandra I wouldn’t have had an opportunity to commit the countless hours that were required to achieve the success that I did”.

It is abundantly apparent that Rey Comeault selflessly dedicated himself to lacrosse, particularly the growth of the women’s game. The vast number of people he impacted positively is immeasurable. Clearly, Rey Comeault’s dedicated commitment to countless others make him not only an incredible person but also worthy of induction into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame in the Builder category – Class of 2022.
