HOW TO DONATE AN ARTIFACT We appreciate your interest and time in making an artefact donation to our collections. When you come forward with this in mind, we begin looking at the Who, What, Where, When, and Why of the object that is being offered. In particular we want to know how the materials are relevant and unique to lacrosse in Canada, to the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame’s current collections, and we want to try to meet the needs and interests of you, the donor. Supporting documentation such as old photographs showing the object in use, instruction manual, purchase receipt, information and any research about the object relating to a player, game, team etc., and things like a guarantee certificate or product packaging, is very useful for us to take into consideration if you have them. New artefact donation offers are carefully and respectfully assessed. We do not want to accept an object that does not meet the Hall and/or museum’s mandate, nor do we want to not be able to meet the donor’s wishes by not being the right fit or not being able to properly integrate the object into the CLHF. A recommendation for or against an acquisition will be made with all this and more in mind in accordance with the collections staff’s criteria. The criteria are as follows:
The Museum staff must also ensure that the proper and secure storage space is available for any temporary receipt of an item before any acceptance procedures. The procedure of accepting acquisitions has a number of important steps that need to be taken to ensure security in both the donor and the CLHF’s interests. Setting the criteria begins this process.
