Jack Gatecliff (Gate) was born in St. Catharines, Ontario on April '0, 19'6. He spent 10 years as a player in his local organization, highlighted by being a member of the 1944 Mann Cup Championship Club. After spending 5 years refereeing in the City League, he became the Public Relations Director for lacrosse in the St. Catharines area. His career as a sports editor with a St. Catharines newspaper has not only given him the opportunity to become an avid booster of lacrosse but has made him the centre of some controversy, in respect to praising the game on many occasions and taking it to task on others. "Gate" was always a strong supporter of the authenticity of lacrosse being Canada's national game. |
