Les Wingrove, of Coquitlam, B.C., played lacrosse as a youngster but, at the age of 17, joined the navy from a five-year stint in the early 1970's -- now a civilian, married, and a father of two boys -- Wingrove was again drawn into the sport.
Over the next dozen years, he coached seven teams (tyke to midget) to provincial titles, served two years as Coquitlam Minor Associption president, officiated for seven years and organized several championship tournaments. In 1979, he began a 10-year association with the Coquitlam junior franchise as coach (1985-88), manager (1979-84) and president (1979), leading the team to two Minto Cup finals. Wingrove then moved up to the senior Adanacs as a coach, manager, or both, and remains with the team today.
Wingrove was the B.C. Lacrosse Association “Mr. Lacrosse” winner in 1976, the BCLA top coach in 1986 and 1998, and the BCLA manager of the year in 1993.
