Al Lewthaite started his senior lacrosse in New Westminster, British Columbia, at age sixteen.

He played in '69 games, amassing 751 points as a hard hitting, aggressive defensive player until his career was cut short because of knee injuries.

He continued after his playing was done as a coach.
